Is there a clean inexpensive motel close to the court house where we could stay the night before a court appearance?

boxersma: The court date is 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 17. Everything seems so expensive but it's a 225 miles drive for us.

Are you talking about Snow Hill or Ocean City court house? If you aren't coming for fun I would suggest staying in Salisbury. It's only 25 miles away and has plenty of chain hotels that aren't Ocean City prices.
