I need some advice planning my wedding in OC from out of state, please!

Is there any way to "rent" part of the beach- anywhere- for a few hours or so? I'd love to get married on the beach but I can't see just walking out onto the beach between families who are trying to enjoy their vacation. Does anyone know who owns the boardwalk? I've pondered holding my ceremony at the end of the Boardwalk by Harrison's, but I'm not sure if I'd be allowed. I'm struggling with this because I don't want to pay a wedding planner, and I'm not going after a huge fancy wedding- 20 guests, tops. I'm located in PA, and would like to do everything from here- without having to make a trip down before the wedding, if at all possible.. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!! :)

We get this question all the time. I just got off the phone with City Hall and the Snow Hill Court for details.

There is no fee involved with getting married on the beach. You will be required to call City Hall and notify them of what beach (as in what block) the ceremony will be performed and what time. The gathering can only last for the time of the ceremony. You are not permitted to host your reception on the beach. Call City Hall at 410-289-8221 to notify them of your plans.

You'll need to get your Worcester county marriage license. You must get your license in the county you are being married in so you'll need to go to the Snow Hill Circuit court. Its about 25 minutes away from Ocean City. The fee is $35 cash (no checks or cc) and there are no blood tests required. You will need the following Items.

- Birth Certificate or Drivers License
- If you are a Divorces you will need your divorce papers
- If you are a Widow or Widower you will need the death certificate of your spouse.

Your certificate will be issues the same day, however you will need to wait 2 full calendar days before performing the service. The certificate is valid for 6 months.

Call the circuit court for more information. 410-632-5500

Now for the reception. This will be the toughest part of your planning. Most restaurants in town will not host a reception during summer months. It is not cost effective for them to shut down for your wedding party. This means the best time to get married would be before Memorial Day or After Labor Day. Since those are the official off-season times you would find plenty of places to accommodate your reception.

I hope this helps. Congratulations.

My fiance and I are doing the same thing right now! Exciting, Congrats! I have found it to be probably a bit harder then doing it at home, but we'd have it no other way We found a restuarant there for our reception already. You need to have a permit for a wedding actually on the beach. I was told to call a wk ahead so thats not bad and to call to get your licence about 6 months prior because it is good for 6 months. We are also from Pa and did make a trip down there this year for some planning. Id love to chat sometime... Let me know if you'd like to. You can email me at michelletrout@hotmail.com
