You can camp on Assateague Island, which is just a few steps from the ocean and a 10 minute drive to Ocean City.
If you're looking for something kid friendly I would suggest checking out Frontier town.

- PastorMary: That would be my suggestion also. If you want to be within a short over-the-dune walk to the beach, then definitely check out Assateague Island Seashore. The camping there is a ball - National and State Parks. You can go boating, on nature walks - they have at least 4 - you can go crabbing and bring home dinner! They have a Camp Store,and there is also a store not too far away from the campground. Frontier Town is also great!! Not close to the beach, but they have an awesome pool!
